At the core of VoiceThreading is providing meaningful opportunities for authentic connections in a world where they seem more scarce by the day. Ask anyone about the most important moment in their learning journey, and they'll give you a name—a teacher, mentor, coach, or friend who understood and supported them at a critical moment. Human connection isn't a superficial effect of learning; it's the underlying driver of it.
As AI reshapes education, we remain committed to supporting authentic human interaction—not approximating it, automating it, or giving it a social media makeover. VoiceThread will always welcome and celebrate the real, growing, and imperfect in all of us.
This roadmap is updated quarterly to reflect our current plans. Features may shift as we learn from your feedback and usage.

VoiceThread Rubrics
Create and apply rubrics directly within VoiceThread for more consistent, efficient grading. Rubrics can be attached to assignments and used alongside existing grading workflows.
Enhanced LMS Grade Sync (released on 1/20/26)
Improved grade passback for Learning Management Systems using LTI 1.3. The LMS gradebook will now show student activity status (Started, In Progress, Submitted, Completed) before you've graded, giving you visibility into participation without opening VoiceThread at all. This will also fix nasty little problems like students being marked late by the LMS even when they submitted on time in VoiceThread.

VoiceThread Courses
A major overhaul of how courses are organized in VoiceThread. Create modules, sequence assignments, and build a complete learning experience—even outside of an LMS. For institutions with LMS integrations, this makes the student experience more organized and intuitive.
Group Assignments
Have students work in a small group to create and submit a VoiceThread and receive a final grade as a group.
Integrated Screen Recording
Record your screen directly within VoiceThread without external tools.

Our most requested feature of the past year! Peer assessment and collaboration are huge parts of most course design. VoiceThread already lends itself to collaboration, and now we've built a simple and streamlined way to build formal assignments using that model.

App-less Mobile VoiceThreading
The VoiceThread mobile app is officially retired! Now you can open, share, and collaborate around VoiceThreads right in your mobile browser of choice. On top of making VoiceThread much more usable on any device, this also enables some long-missing features like the ability to view embedded VoiceThreads and ThreadBoxes on mobile devices.
ThreadBox Tracks/Sections
Organize conference and public-facing engagement projects more easily.
Assignment Archive
Delete/archive old assignments and grade students who haven't yet clicked in from your LMS.

We're actively researching these features. They may move to "Planned" as we validate feasibility and demand.
Transcript Export
Export full transcripts of VoiceThread conversations, organized by slide, with speaker attribution and timestamps. This would enable research use, accessibility review, and integration with institutional AI tools for summarization and analysis.
Recording Editing
Trim and edit audio and video recordings.
Improved Notifications
Redesigned notification system for more relevant, timely alerts and better tie-in with integrated systems
